Having Fun Researching

Let me give you a little background. For a few years, I have kept looking at RC Cars. I just haven't come up with a good reason to get one. Well, my wife organized getting our family members to chip in on a gift for my birthday (one of those bdays with a nice round number). She didn't buy a car (good thing). She gathered up some money for me to get one of my choice - pretty cool, huh.

I have been researching the different options. I have ruled out a nitro car - gas can get messy and isn't recommend for your first car. I am looking at a stadium truck (ST) or a buggy (BX). Both of these can go on-road or off-road. My understanding is that the ST is a little more off-road and the BX is a little more on-road. I am just trying to narrow it down between the two types and a couple of different manufacturers. There is also the decision of getting a RTR (Ready-to-Run) versus a kit (which you build). With kits, you typically have to buy a number of different parts separately and this might cost a little more. The RTRs are pretty much ready to use (except for batteries and charger). I am leaning towards a kit since part of the fun for me is putting it together.

Part of my research has taken me to a number of different web site forums (like http://www.rcgroups.com or http://www.rcuniverse.com. I will let you know what I decide on.

Smoke Detectors

Posted by richard Sat, Dec 04 2004 08:21

Again last night, one of our smoke detectors started chirping. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd one this year. I did a quick search on the internet and found this site. They suggest changing the batteries once a year since they will most likely start chirping in the middle of the night when the temperature is cooler. Our smoke detectors have consent power run to them and the battery is just a backup. I am thinking we should change the batteries every 2 years so everyone doesn't get stirred up by the noise. I guess I will be replacing the rest of them today.
